In his classic book
Think and Grow Rich, Napoleon Hill identifies the number one element found in the most successful people to be desire. He didn’t just find desire, but a white-hot desire.
Without question, the economy is bad. It has created challenges for millions of Americans many of whom have lost jobs. Many of those Americans have wanted to change their lives for years, but hadn’t done anything about it. Maybe that’s because they hadn’t thought too much, or maybe even enough about it. We don’t desire anything unless we have thought about something. James Allen shared with us in
As A Man Thinketh that everything begins with a thought. Both success and failure begin with thoughts.
Why are thoughts so important? Once we have a thought about something we must either now believe or disbelieve it. For example, most people have probably heard of Multi-Level Marketing (MLM). Everyone who has ever heard of an MLM company has strong beliefs about it. It doesn’t matter what your belief is, that belief will determine whether or not you become involved; and ultimately if you do become involved, whether or not you will be successful. But that belief first came from a thought about MLMs that led to your belief. As you can see, belief leads to action or inaction. Both yield results.
Since our results are determined by the actions taken in our lives, whether we take progressive action or no action at all will determine our results. Therefore, our results started with a thought, which led to our belief. While our actions started with a thought, everything else is determined by what we believe. Dr. David Schwartz tells us in
The Magic of Thinking Big, “The size of your results is equal to the size of your belief.”
As you contemplate where you fit into this economy, think about those things that you desire. Your desires may be some thing, some place, or some new form of livelihood. Whatever they may be, think, believe, and act. Now is the greatest time in your life. We’ll talk more about how to set those goals for your successful life now in the next blog. See Brian's other
