You’ve heard their names over and over again for amazing come from behind victories in the fourth quarter. You know them as Joe Montana, John Elway, Bret Favre, Peyton Manning, Ben Rothlisberger, Tom Brady, but they are winners who were behind, but refused to lose in the fourth quarter. They were in the last five minutes of the fourth quarter, much like being in the month of December on the calendar, when they decided that no matter what, they would win or exhaust all their strength in the effort.

Are you behind in your goals this fourth quarter? So, what are you thinking? Are you planning to pull it out or pack it in? Too many times people pack it in just prior to achieving that breakthrough; and for what, to start again next month? I hate to break it to you, but if you choose to lose in the month of December, you set yourself up to do it again in the new year.

There may be only 21 days remaining in the year, and you are far behind. But you too can Do what others before you have done and achieve a breakthrough! Here are five steps you can take now.

1. Take responsibility for your outcome. You win or lose as you choose. Setting your sites on winning, even if you don’t win gives you momentum to to start next season, or year in this case on the right foot.
2. Focus on what needs to be done. No matter what, focus on the next step that takes you closer to your goal. Isn’t it interesting how the last five minutes of a football or basketball game tend to have the best execution? Why? Because they are very specific in what they must do to win.
3. Be specific in what you must do to achieve the goal. Execution is easier when the necessary action is clear.
4. Believe you will win. Too many people say “I am trying.” Even Yoder knows there is no such thing as try. “Do or do not,” he said. “There is no try.” It is up to you to do; and what you believe you will do, you will. Don’t hedge for a second.
5. Visualize what the end of the year will be like for you when you win. Give yourself that five senses experience of feeling, touching, tasting, hearing, and smelling the success. Then you will want to win again.

The good news is you have 21 days to achieve all that you can. Exert your focused actions on those steps taking you closer to where you want to go when you want to arrive.
