Gran Torino - 8 out of 10. Though highly predictable and drenched with racist 'sentiments', for a lack of a better word, it's classic Clint Eastwood. The guarded, stiff lipped demeanor of Eastwood saves the day.

Eastwood plays a Korean War veteran living in a gang infested neighborhood. He has a bitter distaste for asians, blacks, and latinos. Clint also believes his kids who, greedy for his inheritence, are a couple of spoiled brats - not to mention his grandchildren.

Things get rough when one of the gangs turns up the heat, but Clint warms up to his asian next door neighbors and ends up saving a few lives in the process. If you think Clint Eastwood is the man, can tolerate foul language, and your mouth salivates at the sight of a muscle car, I'd reccomend checking it out.

It's highly predictable, but well worth it.

Last weekend I wanted to see The Reader, so I went over to the movie theatre, but realized I was a few days too early. Reluctantly, we choose another movie, TAKEN with Liam Nelson. I have to say I really enjoy it. There is plenty of action, and Liam, as always, gives 100% to his part. He is an ex-CIA agent of some international fame, so uses all his 'intelligence' to find his missing daughter. Good for people who love an action film.

OK - quick before the Oscars. I've only seen 2 of the best picture nominees, one I loved, one I just couldn't stand. The one I loved was Slumdog Millionaire. Such a great movie - great story, great framework for the story, great cinematography. It was tragic but managed to end on a good and hopeful note. I don't think I'll be watching it again any time soon since it was pretty intense but I would highly recommend this one.
On the other hand, I would have/should have walked out of Benjamin Button. Every line in it was a cliche and it was sooo long and drawn out. Plus I had read a review that it was too much like Forrest Gump and I couldn't stop thinking about the comparisons. In fact, here's a video that puts the two together in a pseudo-trailer: http://www.gigglesugar.com/2715654. Somehow Forrest Gump worked and this one just didn't. Plus Brad Pitt looked creepy for most of the movie.
Ok - that's my rave and rant for Oscar movies.

Saw 'The Wrestler" starring Mickey Rourke. I will give it a 7.5. It is a compelling movie filled with characters that while somewhat depressing, are true to themselves. Despite one very bloody and torturous scene that I found difficult to watch which takes place in the ring, Rourke does an outstanding job of portraying a character that is desperately trying to redeem himself within a couple of personal relationships. I thought the ending was hard to swallow and was saddened by it. However, maybe others will feel that going out in a blaze of glory holding onto what you know is something to celebrate.

I also saw Slumdog Millionaire. The scenes are heartbreaking. It was in interesting story, and it was very intense at times. Great music. I liked the parting shots the best. I would rate it an 8. Not for kids.

Hello Everyone. I saw Gran Torino recently. Classic Eastwood. I give it a 9. Humor based on stereotypes abound. However, great message at the end - more or less, our human connection to one another and how that is blind...I recommend it. Great "man' movie that women will enjoy as well. Hope this helps!

Ok, I will make a comment. Has anybody seen "The Castle"? It's an Australian movie. Check it out.

Marley and Me - not as good as the book, However - it does have a real dramatic ending that left Stephanie and crying our eyes out for the last 30 minutes. Suggestions: Take tissues and let it all out.

6 for story - 9 for emotional stress relief.
