Great News All-
I just read a debut novel by James Kaufman. He is a local Wilmingtonian, an attorney and former judge. Jim was kind enough to give me an advanced copy of his book to read, and I just finished it up yesterday.
I can say I really enjoyed it. There was good plot development, rich characters and an interesting amount of detail, history, humor. As a new client of mine, I wasn't sure what to expect of his book, but I can honestly say it kept me reading each page wondering what's next and when I got to the end I wished there was more. As I understand it, it will be publishing this Spring. I'll let you know when it's out... The name of the book is The Collectibles and is being published by Downstream Publishing.

Lee,
Actually, I like that area also... and I'm sure there are others that read Science Fiction too, We would love your comments on any book- as it may inspire someone else to pick it up and read.
I'm afraid my reading in that area is limited though, as is my time. Have you read the whole series by Robert Jordan? My son has been reading that for years...

I just read The Last Symbol. Anyone else read it? I loved it, but I think it's something you just realy like, or you hate it. I just coulnd't put it down and read it in about 2 days.
Currently reading Illumination Night by Alice Hoffman & loving it.

Susan,
Thanks for your suggestion. I will keep my eye out for that also.

Hi Terry & Susan!
Terry - I did enjoy reading it. It took me considerably longer to work through it than my normal reading routine. Some of the concepts in the book take awhile to truly comprehend and I actually made the decision to read it twice and perhaps take some notes the 2nd time around. In an odd way it managed to be both specific and broad at the same time and occasionally left me perplexed.
Susan - Thanks for the recommendation, I'll look into that.

William,
I read Tolle's books The Power of Now and A New Earth, both interesting views of how to control our own minds. You might enjoy Exuberance: The Passion for Life by Kay Redfield Jamison, an alternate look at the successes and challenges of those who have a zest for life.

William,
It sounds like you really liked Eckhart Tolle's book! I tried reading it several months ago, but just couldn't get into it. I've listened to him many times on XM radio- so I feel I got a pretty good background in it anyway. Having had a sister who died very early from cancer, I learned that there is no guarantee of tomorrow, so you must live each day to it's fullest and in the present. I try to do that each day, which sometimes has me pushing the envelope in all directions- but I wouldn't have it any other way. What do you think will be your most changed habit since reading this book?

I finally finished 'The Power of Now' by Eckhart Tolle and I highly recommend it. The premise of the book is that you can monitor your mind rather than being run by it. It teaches you how to watch your thoughts and emotions in a nonjudgemental way, which allows you to find an inner peace that isn't affected by the mind's snap reactions.
I can assure you my description doesn't do the book justice at all. Tolle's message is that living in the now is the truest path to enlightment/happiness.
