Terry Hayes's Page

I'd call myself a "Marketing Technopologist." I first saw the term in a WSJ article titled "The Secrets of Marketing in a Web 2.0 World," used to describe "a person who brings together strengths in marketing, technology and social interaction."
Yes, it is a cheesy term, but I like mentioning it because it fits so well with my studies.

I am extremely interested in people. I like studying people, I like meeting new people, I like talking to interesting people, and I like just hanging out with people. Above all though, love connecting people.
I like connecting people to other people, ideas, and even brands. The caveat is that I try to only connect people to other people, ideas, and brands that they want to be connected to. We've moved away from the one-size fits all era of marketing. Today, interacting with people on a personal level, meeting their specific needs, and generally just doing the "right thing" is what I'm seeing rewarded in the business world.

I am currently pursuing a double major at UNCW in Marketing and Communication Studies, and a minor in Information Technology. I just spent July 2009 in Bremen, Germany studying abroad, and traveling on the weekends. Seeing sights and meeting people from all over the world (in person) has given me a better understanding of the world and the people who inhabit it.

I am very interested in developing technologies, and the changes they will make to tomorrow's world. The excitement I have for these technologies is contagious and rubs off on all those whom I share it with.

This is an age of exponential change, and for this reason I am thrilled to be living in it.
