Electric Dryer safety, lint build up dangers, Could this be you? On Monday my wife called me and said a house on our street nearly caught on fire! It was caused by a combination of a few things. 1st there was lots of lint build up in the dryer, 2nd the clothes that were in it were almost dry, 3rd a simple mechanical failure caused a spark in the unit that set it all off! The one bit of good luck was that they were home and heard a strange noise from the dryer. Hey ran over there just in time to shut it off and pour water on it that they hauled in by bucket. There was some smoke damage and a slight scorch mark on the wall. If they had not been home I fear it would have been a total loss.
Steps to take to keep your self safe1 Have dryer serviced once every 2 years.
2 have vent cleaned every year.
3 Only run appliances when you are home and awake.
4 Know where the fuse/breaker box is and how to shut off the power to the house or appliance.
An electrical fire can not be put out by a fire extinguisher.
5 Know where you fire extinguishers are located and have them checked as recommended buy the manufacturer.
